Musculoskeletal tumours

Finding a lump or being referred for assessment of a bone or soft tissue abnormality can understandably be concerning. My role is to provide expert assessment, accurate diagnosis, and appropriate treatment when needed.

Most lumps and bumps are benign - meaning they are not cancerous.

  • Musculoskeletal tumours are abnormal growths affecting the bones, soft tissues, and supporting structures of the body. This includes a wide spectrum of conditions, from common benign lumps to more complex tumours requiring specialised surgical management.

    I treat patients with:

    • Benign lumps and bumps in soft tissue or bone

    • Soft tissue sarcomas

    • Primary bone tumours

    • Secondary bone tumours (metastatic disease)

    • Complex conditions requiring upper limb reconstructive surgery

  • Not every lump requires surgery. However, proper evaluation is essential to determine the nature of any growth and the most appropriate management approach. This typically involves:

    • A detailed clinical examination

    • Appropriate imaging studies (such as ultrasound, MRI or CT scans)

    • Sometimes a biopsy to examine tissue under the microscope

For certain conditions, particularly when there is concern about sarcoma or other malignancies, I work closely with a multidisciplinary team of specialists. This team approach ensures that every aspect of your care is carefully considered. We discuss each case collectively, bringing together expertise from oncology, radiology, pathology, and other relevant specialties to develop the optimal treatment plan tailored to your individual situation.

  • Treatment recommendations vary considerably depending on the specific diagnosis. Some benign lumps may simply need monitoring over time, while others benefit from removal. For more complex conditions, treatment may involve surgery, sometimes combined with other therapies coordinated through the multidisciplinary team.

Throughout this process, I'm committed to providing clear explanations, answering your questions, and ensuring you understand your diagnosis and treatment options. My goal is to provide expert care while supporting you through what can be an anxious time.

If you've noticed a lump and have been referred for assessment, please don't hesitate to contact the practice. Early evaluation provides clarity and peace of mind.
